Real Madrid wins La Liga title for the 1st time since the 2016/17 season. The title was secured after their win over Villarreal in the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium. The win meant that Madrid was 7 points clear of Barcelona going into the final matchday. It was a special moment for Madridista around the world as they saw their team win the league title after Barcelona won it two on the bounce. The title was also significant as Zidane has another trophy to his name.
Real Madrid won the title in the most un-Madrid way:
Real Madrid, as a club is known to play with flair and flamboyance. Whether it was the late 50s with Alfredo de Stefano, Puskas, Gento, etc. or the latest era of Galacticos with Zidane, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, etc. However, this Madrid side won Campeones 34 by playing tough, gritty football. Many of their wins were by a one-goal margin, which is very unlikely for Madrid.
But one thing that this Madrid side shares with sides of the past was the determination to win every game. After the Lockdown, Zidane said in a press conference, every remaining fixture is like a cup final. This showed in their approach throughout the games, and Madrid won all ten of their fixture since the restart and finally bringing the La Liga title back to Santiago Bernabéu. #HaalaMadrid
Zizou was seen crying after the game:
It was a tough season for Madrid with injury to Hazard while Jovic and Bale not playing for a large part of the season. Plus, their defense looked weak against good teams. The pressure was extreme on Zizou as his Madrid side was already behind Barcelona before the lockdown. Also, there champions league hope took a massive dive after a defeat to Man City.
So, when Real Madrid wins La Liga, Zidane was seen crying after the match. The French World Cup winner was very emotional, and he said this La Liga title meant even more than previous champions league due to everything that is happening in the world. This is one of the few times you saw Zizou emotional, and this speaks volumes about what it meant to the club, the player and the man himself.
Controversial game to win the title:
Villarreal is a good mid-table team in La Liga, and a game against them was never going to be easy. However, Madrid wasn’t on their best, and the team didn’t find the cutting edge in the opening minutes. But then came forward, their player of the season – Karim Benzema, who scored his 20th league goal to give the advantage to Madrid.
Then again, Madrid looked rusty and had to defend for long periods of the game. But a penalty soon followed, and it looked Madrid would score and win the game easily. However, controversy and Madrid also have an excellent relationship. During the first attempt, Ramos attempted to roll for Benzema, but it was disallowed. Up stepped Benzema and scored on the second chance. Although Iborra did score for Villarreal in the 81st minute, but it was only a consolation goal. After the match, it was confirmed that Real Madrid is La Liga champions. #Campeones34 #RMLiga
Way Ahead for Real Madrid:
The only meaningful fixture left in the season is an away match against Manchester City in UCL round of 16. This would be a difficult match as Madrid is 2-1 down, and Pep Guardiola is determined to win the champions league this season. But Madrid and Champions league have a love affair, and you never know what might happen.
Real Madrid wins La Liga and adds another trophy to its illustrious cabinet. This was a massive win for Madrid as they broke Barcelona dominance over La Liga, and with the young talent they have, this might be a stepping stone for the future ahead, and maybe Madridista might get to trend #Campeones35 and 36 ahead in the future.
