In a shocking event, one of the well-established hospitals of Bengaluru, Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital, was shut down. It is counted among the famous hospitals in the Whitefield region of Bengaluru. According to the members of the management, this unit of Narayana Hrudayalaya was shut down because it was unable to scale up according to their expectations.

The authorities of Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital stated that – “We opened this hospital in the form of an upmarket segment to provide short-stay and day-care facilities except for Oncology and cardiac care. Unfortunately, this hospital unit could not grow due to several multiple reasons. One of the major reasons was the lessor’s inability to provide the hospital with additional infrastructure requirements.”

Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital was a multispeciality facility of the premium range and used to cater to the healthcare requirements of people residing in Bengaluru. A team of expert professionals in the medical field, along with state-of-the-art machinery and infrastructure, was used by this hospital. It was known in the Whitefield area of Bengaluru as a facility offering healthcare services in more than thirty medical facilities.

The prominent specialties which were offered at this hospital included Neurosciences, Cardiac Sciences, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics. This hospital also encompassed a separate center for joint replacement, which provided advanced care in the orthopedic sector. Several complex procedures have been carried out in this center for both adults as well as children.

The obstetric care unit of Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital focused on treating multiple types of difficult pregnancy cases and premature babies. This hospital also has designated about 6 units as the neonatal intensive care unit. The medical imaging and radiology department of this hospital included facilities for MRI, CT scans, medical ultrasounds, and doppler tests.

Although Narayana Hrudayalaya Bengaluru has plenty of healthcare specialty units, it was well-known among its peers for the cardiology department, which was headed by Dr. Sandesh Prabhu, who is a renowned name internationally. Under his guidance, several high-end complex cardiac procedures have been performed in this hospital.

Initially, Narayana Hrudayalaya Whitefield was opened on an area of 1.1 Lakh square feet in the year 2013 in the Whitefield region of Bengaluru. It had the capacity to house about 91 beds in total. The main goal of Narayana Hospital’s board members was to expand the hospital phase-wise. Also, this expansion project was supposed to be an economically sustainable and viable project.

The company which opened this hospital already has about 21 hospitals spread through the different parts in India, and they are also responsible for the managerial functions of two other hospitals. In addition to this, this company, which has a chain of healthcare units, has about nineteen primary healthcare centers and close to seven heart centers, including one in the Cayman Islands.

In the secondary quarter of the fiscal year, it was surprising to see the net profit of this healthcare company jumping from INR 13.6 Crores to INR 45.3 Crores, which is almost a three-fold increase. This healthcare company’s consolidated revenue shot up to a shocking number of INR 822.3 Crores, which is by about 15.6%.

For this same quarter, Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital’s operating income increased by about 68.3% to INR 128 Crores. Such good results were due to a dynamic strategy of this company’s sales. This was also due to the advanced standards of accounting for leases and rentals of all its facilities. This chain of healthcare hospitals is lead by Dr. Devi Shetty, who is a well-known cardiac surgeon in the medical field.
