In recent days, there is a lot of hype surrounding Xiaomi devices. From smartphones to mobiles, the brand has become a market leader in bringing out quality electronics at affordable rates. The world of fitness trackers is no different. The Xiaomi MI Band 3, which was launched in 2018, was a major success. Aiming to improvise on that, Band 4 has more activity profiles and a better display. In this article, we will do an MI band 4 review. We shall try to find out if the fitness band provides value for money or whether it will be wiser to pay a few more thousand and buy competitor products.
The purpose of getting a fitness band is to monitor vital health-related parameters. This would include things like the distance traveled, steps taken, and calories burnt. The latest MI band does all that in addition to tracking your passive and active heart rate. On the downside, the fact that this device does not have a built-in GPS will be a hindrance to the accurate measurement of distance metrics. An easy way of overcoming that would be by using its connected GPS feature to link it with your mobile.
Efficient sleep tracking is a feature that sets this fitness band apart from its competitors. Not only will it track your time awake and sleeping hours, but it also has the provision of comparing your data with that of other users. Based on that, the device will give you a sleep score on a range of 0 to 100. The intention of having features like this is to encourage users to sleep better. The device also has a unique sleep identification feature wherein it takes into consideration your hours of light and deep sleep while computing your sleep score.
While we are at doing an MI band 4 review, we need to mention that the optical heart rate sensor slightly protrudes from the bottom. It has a 0.95-inch RGB AMOLED display. Having a 120 X 240-pixel density ensures that the device can be operated even in direct sunlight. The default band that you get on purchase of the device is made of silicone and is comfortable to use. If you want, there are several other third-party bands that you can use with it. Indeed, the design is a major improvement over the previous Band 3 but not the best in the market yet.
Multiple modes of operation
While going for MI band 4 review, we cannot miss out on the multiple modes of operations that the device offers. Other than the generic workout mode, there is a treadmill, walking, outdoor running, pool swimming, and cycling modes. Having a water resistance of 5 ATM, the device can identify five different styles of swimming and 12 different data sets. What this means is that the MI device will now be able to tell apart different stroke counts and paces of swimming. This is something that you will not see in most fitness bands in this range.
The Xiaomi MI Fit App
Available for both Android and iOS, this is the default app that you will use to connect your MI band with the phone. Simple to use, the app has three sections (profile, friends, and workout), and all of that is easy to use. If you want to check the current day’s activities and how close you are to your goals, tap on the status section. Going to ‘Steps today’ under ‘My Workouts’ and then clicking on ‘History’ will lead you to check out your workout progression over time. The MI Fit app can detect the smallest of activities and is one of the best in the market today.
The latest Xiaomi band allows you to set up different vibration patterns for different types of notifications. This means that you do not have to look at your phone too tell if you are getting a text message or WhatsApp message. Also, if you are getting too many notifications, you can enable the Do not disturb mode of your device with just a few taps. The dedicated night mode ensures that the brightness is auto lowered post-sunset or after a certain time set by you. The screen will auto wake up when you lift your wrist at certain hours. This means that you will go to sleep with a dim band and wake up to one whose brightness is adjusted to suit the morning light. These smartwatch features are things that you will not find in other budget fitness bands.
Having completed reading our MI band 4 review, you would have seen for yourself that this is one of the best cheap fitness trackers of 2019. Indeed, over the years, Xiaomi has been adding features to its fitness bands while keeping price hikes as low as possible. This Band 4 is the best the company has offered to date, and it is time that you go out and grab one of these.
